Who Am I?

This summer has been a whirlwind of emotions. I asked myself several times, “Is this real? Am I real?” The simple answer is yes, you are real. The more complex answer is you are real, but you have to make yourself believe that. By yourself.

No one else can tell you what your life is.

This led me to slowing down… everything. My day to day, my hour to hour, my minutes… all of it. I figured I needed to be mindful of not only my own thoughts and emotions, but mindful of everything. All things I do are entirely up to me.

Same goes for you, all your actions and reactions are yours solely… nobody else has that power of you.

So how do I become more intentional with myself?

Tip 1: Go Outside

The world is so vast and beautiful. Nature is the sweetest fruit you can eat. It’s the warmest hug you will ever receive. Go outside, sit on a blanket, watch the clouds, swim in a river, allow yourself to open up to the world and the world will show you, its beauty.

I have spent my summer at home, but that hasn’t stopped me from exploring. I beg of you to explore, find your new favorite spot to sit. Feel the sunshine on your skin, and soak in its rays of warmth. By allowing nature to show you its beauty, you will find yourself in the world around you.

I see myself in the blades of grass that soak in the sun. I can find myself in the light reflecting off a river.

Nature is a mirror… use it.

Tip 2: Journal

Something that has helped me immensely with becoming more aware of myself is the simple, yet freeing act of journaling. I can’t express how rewarding it is to get a journal and fill up page after page with your own writing.

There is something beautifully profound about journaling, but even more so having the resources to go back in time and re-enter your past state of mind. I love to write, but something I enjoy even more is flipping through past diaries and reading my old self speaking so openly about life. I truly feel as though I give a hug to my past self every time I read an old entry.

I should also add that there is something so grounding about seeing where you were a month or even a year ago and being able to see the change in your life. It makes all moments feel connected and for me it allows me to move with intention towards the future I desire.

Tip 3: Read, Read, Read

Find your niche within the pages of a good book. I am not saying you have to read profound groundbreaking literature (unless you desire that). What I am saying is that reading helps you grasp who you are, regardless of if it’s a classic or a cheesy romance book.

Reading helps you form who you are, it shapes the very essence of our lives. So, pick up a book and read.

Those are three tips that I have in helping you find yourself. Going outside, journaling, and reading all have helped me in discovering who I am and what I want. Good luck with your self-discovery.

Best of wishes always,
